A Bit of Good News - Moving Day
January 4, 2023 - Vol. 2, Issue 1
TinyLetter is a wonderful email service but its options are very limited. So, A Bit of Good News has moved to Substack. What does that mean for you?
You'll still receive all of the good news stories, surveys, simple pleasure lists and inspiring quotes in your email box that you've come to love -- for free. I'll simply be able to upgrade the design of each issue.
And, if you'd like to support the newsletter, Substack also provides an option to do so. A monthly subscription of $5 makes a real difference in helping me share these stories with you. Readers who want to sign up for an annual subscription receive a $10 discount. Plus, everyone who becomes a paid subscriber to A Bit of Good News will be automatically entered into a monthly giveaway for books, gift certificates and other prizes.
Thanks for reading, and now, for….
A Win For Animal Rights
The New York Cruelty-Free Cosmetics Act, which prohibits the sale and manufacturing of cosmetics that have been tested on animals, goes into effect this month. When it does, New York will become the 10th state to pass such a ban. According to the Humane Society of the United States, more than 375 companies — including H&M, Unilever and Walgreens — have also signed on to support a nationwide ban.

Triumph Over Trash
How much does your town recycle? And where does the trash end up? The answers to these questions inspired Tilos, Greece to launch a major campaign to fix its pollution problem. Now, the tiny island recycles up to 86% of its rubbish and its landfill is permanently closed.

Home Again, Mr. Bean
A 10-year-old Boston terrier named Bean disappeared in the woods of New Hampshire two weeks ago. His family spent eight straight days searching for him. They even slept in their cars just in case he was sighted nearby. Luckily, a hiker found Bean and carried him to safety.
